Direct Support Professionals (DSP’s) provide In-Home and Community Support to adults with intellectual disabilities in their homes and in their communities. DSP’s may assist with almost all activities of daily living through direct assistance, modeling, instruction and reinforcement. Areas of support may include but are not limited to homemaking, meal preparation, managing resources, accessing community resources, maintaining or creating new relationships, adjustment to changing circumstances, self-care, and maintaining medical appointments. With the help of supportive family, friends, and team members, individuals identify areas of their everyday life in which independence can be increased. The focus of HABILIS In-Home and Community Supports is to consistently decrease the barriers to independence. Qualified DSP’s can provide transportation within the community to individuals in their own vehicles, or use vehicles provided by the individual's family providing it is compliant and safe. All Companion Services are provided according to ISP authorization. All DSPs required to pass Pennsylvania State Police (or FBI) criminal background checks and Child Abuse History Certification from DHS, and Habilis Orientation Training prior to providing In-Home and Community Habilitation Services.
